In the original Assassin's Creed game, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad's first assassination target is in Damascus.
Altaïr's first mission after being demoted by Al Mualim is to investigate and kill Tamir, a wealthy arms merchant operating in Damascus. The city is one of the three major urban locations that Altaïr visits during the game's 1191 campaign, alongside Acre and Jerusalem.
The target sequence is easy to confuse because the game repeatedly sends Altaïr between the same three cities. Damascus is not Altaïr's birthplace or the location of the Assassin headquarters; Masyaf serves as the Brotherhood's mountain stronghold. Nor is Tamir the game's first major historical figure encountered, since the opening sequence begins in Solomon's Temple before Altaïr's fall from rank.
After gathering information through investigations, eavesdropping, pickpocketing, and interrogations, Altaïr reaches Tamir's market district. The assassination establishes the game's central pattern: uncover a target's activities, eliminate them, and return to the bureau for a report.
