In the original 2007 video game Assassin's Creed, which historical order does Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad belong to?

The story behind the answer

Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad belongs to the Assassin Order in the original 2007 video game Assassin's Creed.

The game presents the Assassins as a secretive organization opposing the Templars, who seek to control society through powerful artifacts and centralized authority. Altaïr is introduced as a senior Assassin whose reckless actions cause him to lose his rank and equipment.

His mentor, Al Mualim, sends him to eliminate targets across the Holy Land. These missions gradually reveal a wider Templar conspiracy and force Altaïr to reconsider the order's principles. The historical Assassins were inspired partly by the medieval Nizari Ismailis, although the game heavily fictionalizes their beliefs and activities.

A common mix-up is calling the opposing faction the Knights Templar in every historical period. In the series, the Templar name and structure change across eras, while the Assassin Order remains the recurring counterforce.
