In The Office (UK), what job title does David Brent hold at Wernham Hogg?

In The Office (UK), David Brent is the general manager at Wernham Hogg.

Brent, played by co-creator Ricky Gervais, runs the Slough branch of the fictional paper merchant Wernham Hogg. His position places him in charge of the office staff, although his attempts to appear popular, entertaining and inspirational frequently undermine his authority.

The title is sometimes confused with “regional director”, partly because the American version uses regional-manager terminology and because Brent has superiors at the company. In Series 1, Jennifer Taylor-Clarke is his immediate superior; in Series 2, Neil Godwin takes that role. Brent is therefore a branch general manager, not the company’s overall head.

His career changes after he is made redundant at the end of Series 2. In the Christmas specials, he is working as a travelling salesman of cleaning supplies, a significant change from his former office position.
