In the Noah's Ark story in Genesis, the ark was 50 cubits wide. Genesis 6:15 lists this width between the ark’s length of 300 cubits and its height of 30 cubits.
Because ancient cubits were not standardized, the width cannot be converted to one certain modern measurement. A commonly used estimate places 50 cubits at approximately 22 to 23 metres, or around 75 feet. The exact conversion depends on which historical cubit is assumed.
The dimensions create a vessel six times longer than it was wide and ten times longer than it was high. Those proportions resemble a stable floating platform more than a ship designed for long-distance sailing. The biblical account does not describe a rudder, sail, or navigational course.
Readers sometimes combine the Genesis measurements with details from later artistic reconstructions or other flood traditions. The figure of 50 cubits is specifically the width given in Genesis 6:15, not a measurement shared by every ancient ark story.
