Wolfsbane, whose real name is Rahne Sinclair, is a Scottish mutant who can transform into a wolf-like form. In the film, she is one of several young mutants held in a secret medical facility while struggling to understand and control their powers.

Williams was internationally known for playing Arya Stark in the television series Game of Thrones before appearing in The New Mutants. The film also stars Blu Hunt as Dani Moonstar, Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin, Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie, and Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa.
