In the myth of Pandora’s box, which Titan was Pandora’s brother-in-law?
Answer
Prometheus
Answer
Prometheus
In the myth of Pandora’s box, Prometheus was Pandora’s brother-in-law because he was the brother of her husband, Epimetheus.
Prometheus is the Titan associated with giving fire to humanity. Zeus punished him for that act, and Hesiod presents Pandora’s creation as part of the wider retaliation against humans. Pandora was sent to Epimetheus, Prometheus’s brother, despite Prometheus’s warning to reject gifts from Zeus.
Prometheus and Pandora therefore occupy opposite sides of the story’s central conflict. Prometheus represents foresight and resistance to Zeus, while Pandora becomes the means through which troubles enter human life.
Some later retellings make Pandora directly related to Prometheus or describe her as his companion, but Hesiod’s genealogy identifies the more precise relationship: she married his brother Epimetheus.
