The eccentric teacher in The Magic School Bus is Ms. Frizzle.
The animated series is based on the children’s books written by Joanna Cole and illustrated by Bruce Degen. It follows Ms. Frizzle and her students at Walkerville Elementary School as they explore science through extraordinary field trips.
The class’s yellow school bus can transform and travel through places such as the human body, outer space, oceans, and prehistoric environments. These fantastical trips provide the framework for explaining real scientific ideas to young viewers.
Lily Tomlin provided the voice of Ms. Frizzle in the original animated series. The character became one of children’s television’s best-known fictional teachers, recognized for her colorful outfits, unusual lessons, and catchphrase about taking chances.
