In The Magic School Bus animated series, the eccentric science teacher is Ms. Frizzle.
Ms. Valerie Frizzle leads her class on extraordinary field trips involving science, from outer space to the human body. The original animated series presents her as an energetic and highly knowledgeable elementary-school teacher whose lessons turn ordinary school excursions into imaginative adventures.
Lily Tomlin voiced Ms. Frizzle in the original television series, which was based on the children’s book series by Joanna Cole and Bruce Degen. The show premiered on PBS on September 10, 1994, and ran through 1997. Its theme song was performed by Little Richard.
A common mix-up is confusing Valerie Frizzle with Fiona Frizzle. Fiona is Valerie’s younger sister and the teacher in the later series The Magic School Bus Rides Again, where Kate McKinnon provides the main Frizzle voice. In the original series, however, the teacher students know simply as “Ms. Frizzle” is Valerie.
