In The Lion King (1994), which Elton John and Tim Rice song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song?

In The Lion King (1994), “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Elton John composed the music and Tim Rice wrote the lyrics for the song. In the film, it accompanies Simba and Nala as their relationship develops, while the end-credits version features Elton John’s vocal performance. The song became one of the movie’s best-known musical pieces.

The Lion King received four nominations in the song category, an unusual showing for one film: “Circle of Life,” “Hakuna Matata,” “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” and “Be Prepared” were all submitted, although only three were nominated. The winning song was performed at the ceremony by Elton John.

The film won two Oscars overall, also taking the award for Hans Zimmer’s original score. Its soundtrack helped make The Lion King one of Disney’s landmark 1990s animated releases.
