In The Jungle Book, which animal teaches Mowgli the Law of the Jungle?

The story behind the answer

Baloo teaches Mowgli the Law of the Jungle in The Jungle Book.

Baloo is a bear who serves as the teacher of the wolf pack’s young members. He instructs Mowgli in the rules, phrases, and customs that allow different jungle species to live within an organized social order. His role is educational rather than simply protective.

Kipling’s Baloo is more disciplined and scholarly than some later comic portrayals. He takes the jungle laws seriously and insists that Mowgli learn them correctly. Bagheera is usually the more vigilant guardian, while Baloo represents instruction, tradition, and authority.

Disney’s 1967 animated film gives Baloo a much more relaxed and humorous personality. The film also makes him central to the song “The Bare Necessities,” which became one of the best-known musical numbers associated with the adaptation. Despite these changes, Baloo’s identity as a bear and teacher remains consistent across versions.
