In the Harry Potter films, which Hogwarts house does Ron Weasley belong to?

The story behind the answer

Ron Weasley belongs to Gryffindor in the Harry Potter films.

Gryffindor is one of the four Hogwarts houses, founded by Godric Gryffindor. The house values courage, bravery, nerve and chivalry. Ron is sorted into Gryffindor alongside Harry Potter and Hermione Granger when they begin at Hogwarts.

The trio’s house membership is central to the films’ story. Ron’s brothers Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred and George are also Gryffindors, as is his younger sister Ginny. The house’s common room is located in a tower at Hogwarts and is reached through a portrait entrance.

A common mix-up is confusing Ron’s house with his family’s Quidditch allegiance or with the house of his rival, Draco Malfoy, who is sorted into Slytherin. Gryffindor is also the house associated with Harry and Hermione throughout the main film series.
