In the Harry Potter books, who founded Gryffindor house at Hogwarts?
Answer
Godric Gryffindor
Answer
Godric Gryffindor
Godric Gryffindor founded Gryffindor house at Hogwarts in the Harry Potter books.
Gryffindor was one of Hogwarts’ four founders, alongside Salazar Slytherin, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Helga Hufflepuff. The four witches and wizards established the school in Scotland roughly a thousand years before Harry Potter’s arrival.
Gryffindor valued bravery, courage, nerve, and chivalry. His house used scarlet and gold colors, and its emblem was a lion. The Sorting Hat, originally Gryffindor’s own hat, helps place students into the four houses.
A common mix-up is confusing Gryffindor the founder with Harry’s house itself. Harry, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger are later Gryffindor students, but the house takes its name from Godric Gryffindor. His famous sword also becomes important in the fight against Voldemort.
