In the Harry Potter books, what number is Harry Potter’s vault at Gringotts?

The story behind the answer

Harry Potter’s personal vault at Gringotts in the Harry Potter books is Vault 687.

Harry visits Gringotts with Hagrid shortly after arriving in the wizarding world. Hagrid takes him to Vault 687, where Harry discovers that his parents left him a substantial fortune in wizarding money. This scene introduces the bank, its goblin employees, and Harry’s financial independence from the Dursleys.

Vault 687 is different from Vault 713, which contains the mysterious package Hagrid collects for Albus Dumbledore during the same visit. Vault 713 later becomes associated with the Philosopher’s Stone, making the two numbers easy to mix up.

Gringotts is located in Diagon Alley and is presented as the main bank of the British wizarding community. Its underground vaults are protected by locks, guards, and magical security. The number 687 is specifically Harry’s vault number, while other characters and institutions use different vaults.
