In the graphic novel The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, which writer created the series with artist Kevin O’Neill?

The story behind the answer

In The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Alan Moore created the series with artist Kevin O’Neill. The comic brings together characters from Victorian and earlier literature in an alternate-history adventure setting.

The first volume was published by America’s Best Comics through WildStorm in 1999. Its protagonists include Mina Murray, Allan Quatermain, Captain Nemo, Hawley Griffin, and Dr. Henry Jekyll. Rather than being original superheroes in the usual sense, they are reinterpretations of characters from public-domain or historically established fiction.

Kevin O’Neill’s highly distinctive art is essential to the series’ identity, while Moore supplied the scripts and extensive literary allusions. The comic is sometimes confused with the 2003 film adaptation, which changes several characters and plot elements. Moore and O’Neill later produced additional volumes, including The Black Dossier and Century.
