Vincent is the illegitimate son of Sonny Corleone and Lucy Mancini, making him a member of the next generation of the Corleone family. Michael brings him into the family’s orbit as a reckless young man and eventually names him his successor.

Garcia’s performance earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. The nomination was one of the film’s seven Oscar nominations, although Part III did not win any Academy Awards.
