In The Godfather Part II, which actor portrays Frankie Pentangeli?

Michael V. Gazzo portrays Frankie Pentangeli in The Godfather Part II.

Frankie Pentangeli is a New York-based Corleone family caporegime who becomes involved in Michael Corleone’s expanding criminal organization. The character is introduced as a loyal old-style gangster, but his position becomes unstable after the Rosato brothers challenge his authority.

Pentangeli’s storyline develops into one of the film’s major conflicts. After an attempted murder, he cooperates with a Senate investigation into organized crime and appears at a public hearing connected to Michael’s business empire. Michael later uses Pentangeli’s brother to influence his testimony.

Gazzo received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for the role. The character is sometimes confused with Clemenza, another older Corleone associate from the first film. Clemenza was played by Richard S. Castellano and does not appear in Part II because the character is said to have died before the film’s main events.
