In the Genesis Flood story, on what mountains did the Ark come to rest?

The story behind the answer

In the Genesis Flood story, the Ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.

Genesis 8:4 says that the Ark rested on the mountains of Ararat on the seventeenth day of the seventh month. The wording is plural, so the text does not name one particular peak. Ararat is associated with a region traditionally linked with eastern Anatolia and surrounding areas.

A common mix-up is to answer Mount Ararat, the modern volcanic mountain in eastern Turkey. That mountain became a major focus of later traditions and expeditions, but Genesis itself says “mountains of Ararat,” not explicitly the single summit now called Mount Ararat.

The biblical account does not describe a confirmed archaeological discovery of the Ark. Claims about possible remains have appeared repeatedly, but no finding has achieved broad scientific acceptance.
