In the Genesis flood narrative, the story of Noah’s Ark appears in the Book of Genesis.
The account begins in Genesis 6 with God’s decision to judge widespread violence and corruption, continues through the flood and the ark’s survival, and concludes with the covenant described in Genesis 9. The main narrative therefore spans Genesis chapters 6 through 9.
Genesis is the first book of the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Old Testament. Its name comes from the Greek word for “origin” or “beginning,” while the Hebrew title is Bereshit, meaning “In the beginning.” Noah’s story sits among the book’s early narratives about creation, humanity, judgment, and ancestral families.
