Michelangelo is the surviving turtle known as the Last Ronin in the comic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin.
The five-issue miniseries, published by IDW from 2020 to 2022, is set in a possible future in which the other three original Turtles and their allies have died. Michelangelo returns to New York seeking revenge and justice after years of isolation.
The story was based on an unused concept developed by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird decades earlier. Its darker future setting and mature tone distinguish it from most animated and family-oriented adaptations.
The identity of the Last Ronin was intentionally kept secret during the story’s promotion, which led to widespread speculation. The comic ultimately identifies Michelangelo as the surviving brother, while also exploring memories of Leonardo, Raphael, and Donatello.
