In the comic series The Umbrella Academy, what is the surname shared by its superpowered siblings?

The story behind the answer

In The Umbrella Academy, the superpowered siblings share the surname Hargreeves.

The Umbrella Academy was created by writer Gerard Way and artist Gabriel Bá. Its central characters are seven children who were mysteriously born on the same day to women who had not previously shown signs of pregnancy. Sir Reginald Hargreeves, an eccentric and demanding inventor, adopts them and trains them as a superhero team.

The siblings are commonly identified by numbers rather than ordinary superhero aliases: Luther is Number One, Diego is Number Two, Allison is Number Three, Klaus is Number Four, and so on. Their powers, personalities, and strained family relationships drive much of the story.

The comic began with the miniseries Apocalypse Suite, published by Dark Horse Comics in 2007. The title refers to the group’s shared organization and headquarters, while the Hargreeves name comes from their adoptive father. The television adaptation expanded and altered several parts of the comic’s continuity.
