In Locke & Key, the Locke family lives in the Massachusetts town of Lovecraft.
Locke & Key was created by writer Joe Hill and artist Gabriel Rodríguez. After the murder of Rendell Locke, his widow and three children move to Keyhouse, the family’s ancestral estate in the fictional Massachusetts town of Lovecraft. There they discover magical keys that open doors to extraordinary—and dangerous—places.
The town’s name deliberately evokes H. P. Lovecraft, whose influence can be felt in the series’ cosmic horror and secret-history elements. However, Locke & Key is an original modern fantasy-horror story, not an adaptation of a Lovecraft work.
The comic’s recurring setting is Keyhouse, a mansion filled with hidden doors, mechanisms, and supernatural history. The Locke children’s discoveries gradually connect the keys to earlier generations of their family and to an enemy seeking to use their power.
