Tangle Teezer was invented by hairdresser Shaun Pulfrey and featured on the British TV show Dragon's Den.
Pulfrey developed the detangling hairbrush after working in the hairdressing industry and observing how conventional brushes could pull and damage tangled hair. The Tangle Teezer used flexible teeth arranged to move through knots with less tugging than many traditional brushes.
Pulfrey pitched the product on Dragon's Den in 2007 and secured an investment from Deborah Meaden. The product later became an international success, with Tangle Teezer developing several brush designs for different hair types and styling needs.
Tangle Teezer is a brand name, not a generic term for every detangling brush. The product is also distinct from heated straighteners and ordinary salon brushes, which serve different purposes even when sold in the same hair-care market.
