In the Bible, who was Jacob's daughter?

Dinah was Jacob’s daughter in the Book of Genesis.

Dinah was the daughter of Jacob and Leah, making her part of the family that became the foundation of the twelve tribes of Israel. Genesis first mentions her birth after Leah has already borne six sons to Jacob. Dinah is the only daughter of Jacob who is named in the Hebrew Bible, although Jacob’s family may have included other unnamed daughters.

Her most prominent story appears in Genesis 34. While Jacob’s family is living near Shechem, Dinah encounters Shechem, the son of the local ruler Hamor. The chapter then describes a violent conflict involving Dinah’s brothers Simeon and Levi, who retaliate against the men of the city.

Readers sometimes confuse Dinah with one of Jacob’s sons because the biblical genealogies focus heavily on male descendants. She is also listed later among Jacob’s household when the family travels to Egypt. Later Jewish and Christian traditions add details about her life, but those elaborations are not stated directly in Genesis.
