In the Bible, who was Abraham's first son?

In the Bible, Abraham's first son was Ishmael.

Ishmael was born to Abraham and Hagar, Sarah's Egyptian servant, in the Book of Genesis. Sarah had been unable to have children, so she gave Hagar to Abraham as a wife according to the customs described in the story. Hagar's pregnancy created tension between the two women, but Ishmael remained Abraham's firstborn son.

The Bible later describes Isaac as Abraham's son by Sarah and the child through whom God's covenant would continue. This distinction often causes confusion: Isaac was the child of the covenant in the Genesis narrative, but Ishmael was born first. Genesis says Abraham was 86 years old when Ishmael was born and 100 when Isaac was born.

Ishmael is also an important figure in Islam, where he is known as Isma'il. Islamic tradition regards him as a prophet, associates him with Mecca, and often identifies him as an ancestor of Arab peoples. The Qur'an does not explicitly name the son in the sacrifice story, another point that can lead to differing answers in religious quizzes.
