In the BBC series Sherlock, who wrote the episode “A Study in Pink”?

The story behind the answer

Steven Moffat wrote “A Study in Pink,” the first episode of the BBC series Sherlock.

The episode premiered in the United Kingdom on 25 July 2010 and serves as the modern adaptation’s introduction to Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson. It was directed by Paul McGuigan and adapts elements from Arthur Conan Doyle’s first Holmes story, “A Study in Scarlet.”

The television episode changes the original title and updates the setting to contemporary London, using mobile phones, internet searches, GPS and text messaging as investigative tools. Steven Moffat co-created Sherlock with Mark Gatiss, but Gatiss wrote the second and third episodes of series 1, “The Blind Banker” and “The Great Game.” This division of writing credits is a common source of confusion.
