In the BBC series Sherlock, who plays Inspector Greg Lestrade?

Rupert Graves plays Inspector Greg Lestrade in the BBC series Sherlock.

Graves’s Lestrade is a senior detective with the Metropolitan Police who frequently relies on Sherlock Holmes’s unusual investigative abilities. Although Lestrade can become frustrated by Sherlock’s arrogance, he generally recognizes Holmes’s value and treats him as an important consultant.

Rupert Graves is an English actor whose other screen work includes the television series V for Vendetta and the Inspector Morse sequel series Endeavour. His performance gives Lestrade a mixture of professional authority, irritation and genuine respect.

The role is sometimes confused with Mycroft Holmes, played by Mark Gatiss, or Sherlock’s police pathologist Molly Hooper, played by Louise Brealey. Lestrade is a police inspector, not a medical examiner.
