The first main Assassin's Creed game was released in 2007.
Ubisoft released Assassin's Creed in November 2007 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, with a Windows version following in 2008. The game introduced the series' central historical-memory concept, the Animus, and its recurring conflict between Assassins and Templars.
The original title starred Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad during the Third Crusade and framed his historical missions through the modern-day story of Desmond Miles. Its success established Assassin's Creed as one of Ubisoft's major game franchises.
2009 is the release year commonly associated with Assassin's Creed II, while 2011 is associated with Assassin's Creed Revelations. Neither date marks the debut of the main series.
