Semi Ajayi scored Hull City’s first goal against Manchester United during the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.
The Nigerian defender struck in the 17th minute at the MKM Stadium. Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens had tipped Oli McBurnie’s effort onto the post, and Ajayi reacted quickest to finish the follow-up.
Ajayi’s goal was especially notable because Hull were returning to the Premier League after a nine-year absence. The Tigers then extended their lead before half-time through Nobel Mendy, completing a 2–0 victory over Manchester United.
A common mix-up is to credit McBurnie with the opener because his initial shot created the chance. However, the official goal was awarded to Ajayi, while Mendy scored Hull’s second goal.
