The revival begins after the death of Frasier’s father, Martin, and the end of Frasier’s long relationship with Charlotte. He hopes that returning to Boston will help him repair his relationship with his adult son, Frederick “Freddy” Crane, who works as a firefighter there. Frasier also accepts a teaching position at Harvard University, giving the new series a distinctly academic Boston setting.
This answer is easy to confuse with Seattle, because Seattle was the home of the original Frasier sitcom. From 1993 to 2004, Frasier hosted a radio advice show at Seattle’s fictional KACL station. Chicago is also relevant: after the original series, Frasier became the host of a television program there before returning to Boston in the revival. The 2023 series therefore brings the character back to his Cheers-era city while giving him a new family and professional life.
