Rooney Mara plays computer hacker Lisbeth Salander in the 2011 film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
Lisbeth is a brilliant investigator and skilled hacker who helps journalist Mikael Blomkvist investigate a decades-old disappearance. Her computer expertise, memory, research ability, and willingness to challenge powerful people make her central to the investigation.
The film was directed by David Fincher and is based on Stieg Larsson’s 2005 novel, the first book in the Millennium series. Daniel Craig plays Blomkvist. The Swedish film adaptation released in 2009 featured Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth, which is a frequent source of confusion when comparing the two versions.
Mara received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for her performance. The film’s dark investigative style and Salander’s distinctive appearance helped make the character one of modern cinema’s most recognizable hacker figures.
