In the 2010 film “The Expendables,” Jason Statham plays the character Lee Christmas.
Lee Christmas is a former SAS soldier and a highly skilled knife specialist who works as a mercenary with Barney Ross’s Expendables team. He is presented as Barney’s closest friend and right-hand man, giving him an important role within the group even though the film features a large ensemble cast of action stars.
The character’s surname creates several jokes in the film, and the team regularly teases him about his name, accent, and relatively small stature. Those running gags can make the character memorable, but they do not change his canonical name. The other options belong to different characters: Tool is played by Mickey Rourke, Yin Yang by Jet Li, and Barney Ross by Sylvester Stallone.
Lee is especially associated with throwing knives and close-quarters combat. He joins Barney on the mission to Vilena, where the team becomes involved in an attempt to overthrow General Garza and confront the corrupt former CIA operative James Munroe. Statham returned as Lee Christmas in several later entries in the franchise.
