In the 2008 film "The Dark Knight," the villain Two-Face is Harvey Dent, Gotham City’s former district attorney.
Dent begins the story as an ally of Batman and Commissioner Gordon in their campaign against organized crime. His transformation follows the death of Rachel Dawes and the severe scarring of half his face after an explosion engineered by the Joker. He then adopts the Two-Face identity and lets a coin flip determine his choices.
The character originated in DC Comics, first appearing in "Detective Comics" #66 in 1942. Comic-book versions commonly trace his disfigurement to mob boss Sal Maroni throwing acid at him, while Christopher Nolan’s film gives the origin a different dramatic context.
Aaron Eckhart played Harvey Dent and Two-Face in the film. A frequent mix-up is confusing him with Jonathan Crane, whose villain identity is Scarecrow, or Oswald Cobblepot, known as the Penguin. Edward Nigma, usually called Edward Nygma, is the Riddler.
