In the 2007 video game Assassin's Creed, which faction does Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad belong to?

The story behind the answer

In the 2007 video game Assassin's Creed, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad belongs to the Assassins.

Altaïr is introduced as a senior member of the Assassin Brotherhood, a secretive organization that opposes the Templars. The game follows his missions during the Third Crusade, when he travels among cities including Masyaf, Jerusalem, Acre, and Damascus.

The Assassins value free will and resist attempts to impose control through powerful artifacts or political authority. The Templars, their main rivals, seek order and control, making the conflict central to the series' historical-fiction setting.

A common mix-up is treating Altaïr as the name of the player character in every Assassin's Creed game. He is the central protagonist of the first main game, while later entries focus on different historical figures such as Ezio Auditore and Edward Kenway.
