Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad is the playable protagonist of the 2007 video game Assassin's Creed during the Third Crusade.
Altaïr is a Syrian Assassin operating in the Holy Land in 1191. The game follows his fall from favor after a failed mission, followed by a series of assignments intended to restore his rank. His targets and investigations reveal a wider conflict involving the Knights Templar and powerful artifacts.
Altaïr is distinct from Ezio Auditore, the protagonist of the next major story arc, and from later characters such as Connor and Edward Kenway. His name is commonly rendered with different transliterations, including Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad. The character also appears in later Assassin's Creed stories, but the original game is specifically centered on his campaign across cities including Masyaf, Jerusalem, Acre, and Damascus.
