In the 2007 video game Assassin’s Creed, what is the full name of the protagonist Altair?

The story behind the answer

The protagonist of the 2007 video game Assassin’s Creed is Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad.

Altaïr is a Syrian Assassin operating during the Third Crusade, primarily in cities including Masyaf, Jerusalem, Acre, and Damascus. The game presents him as a highly skilled but initially overconfident member of the Assassin Brotherhood. After a failed mission, his rank and equipment are reduced, forcing him to rebuild his reputation by carrying out investigations and assassinations.

The name is often written as Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, with Altaïr meaning “the flying one” in Arabic usage and Ibn-La'Ahad meaning “son of no one.” He is not the same character as Ezio Auditore, the Italian Assassin who leads later games in the historical timeline. Altaïr’s story also connects to Desmond Miles through the Animus, the machine that lets modern users experience genetic memories. His role made him one of the foundational figures in the Assassin’s Creed universe.
