Andalasia is the animated kingdom where Giselle begins in Enchanted. The film opens in a traditional hand-drawn fairy-tale world before Giselle is pushed through a magical portal into modern-day New York City.
Andalasia is an original fictional setting created for the film rather than a kingdom borrowed directly from one established Disney story. It contains familiar fairy-tale features, including woodland animals, a handsome prince and a jealous queen, while combining several Disney traditions.
The name is easy to confuse with other fictional places. Arendelle belongs to Frozen, Agrabah is associated with Aladdin, and Genovia is the European kingdom from The Princess Diaries. None is Giselle’s home kingdom.
Enchanted was released in 2007, with Amy Adams playing Giselle, Patrick Dempsey playing Robert Philip and James Marsden playing Prince Edward. The film shifts between animation and live action as Giselle enters Manhattan.
