In the 2003 film "Bad Boys II," Jordi Mollà plays drug lord Johnny Tapia. Tapia is a powerful Miami-based trafficker whose criminal operation centers on ecstasy, money laundering, and control of a network that reaches into Cuba. His ambition and brutality make him the principal antagonist facing detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett.
Tapia’s plan involves flooding Miami with ecstasy while using a mortuary business to launder the proceeds. The detectives investigate his organization with help from the Miami Police Department’s Tactical Narcotics Team, led by Captain Conrad Howard. Their pursuit becomes increasingly personal and dangerous as Tapia’s criminal empire threatens people connected to the investigation.
The name can be confused with the film’s other characters, including Alexei, Tapia’s associate, and the various smaller-time criminals encountered during the case. It is also distinct from the two heroes: Will Smith plays Mike Lowrey and Martin Lawrence plays Marcus Burnett. Directed by Michael Bay, the movie is the second installment in the Bad Boys series and combines buddy-cop comedy with large-scale action set pieces.
