In the 1991 film 'Point Break', the surfer girl who befriends Johnny Utah is Tyler. Played by Lori Petty, Tyler is an experienced surfer and restaurant waitress who helps Utah after his disastrous first attempt to ride the waves.
Utah is a rookie FBI agent investigating the Ex-Presidents, a gang suspected of robbing Southern California banks while wearing masks of former presidents. His partner Angelo Pappas believes the criminals are surfers, so Utah goes undercover in the local surfing community. Tyler teaches him to surf, and their relationship becomes romantic even as Utah grows closer to Bodhi and the rest of the gang.
Tyler is also connected to the criminals through Bodhi, her former boyfriend. When she discovers that Utah is an FBI agent, she feels betrayed and ends their relationship. Roach is one of Bodhi's fellow surfers, while Nancy and Juliette are not characters in the 1991 film. The title refers to a wave breaking as it reaches a point of land.
