In the 1988 movie "Die Hard", what is the name of the Los Angeles skyscraper where the action takes place?

The story behind the answer

In the 1988 movie Die Hard, the Los Angeles skyscraper taken over by terrorists is called Nakatomi Plaza.

Nakatomi Plaza is fictional and serves as the headquarters of the Nakatomi Corporation, where John McClane attends a Christmas Eve office party before Hans Gruber’s robbery begins. The building’s name is central to the film’s setting, even though many scenes take place in sets or constructed sections of the tower.

The real exterior location was Fox Plaza in Century City, now known as 2121 Avenue of the Stars. The 34-story building was still under construction when filming took place, which allowed the production to use the site for exterior shots and many interior locations. In the story, however, the building is presented as Nakatomi Plaza.

A common mix-up is calling it Fox Plaza, the real building’s name, or Takagi Tower, which is not the skyscraper’s name. Joseph Takagi is the Nakatomi Corporation executive whose office party hosts the film’s opening action.
