In Die Hard, the limo driver who helps John McClane is named Argyle.
Argyle drives McClane from the airport to Nakatomi Plaza on Christmas Eve and waits in the parking garage while McClane visits his estranged wife, Holly. When Hans Gruber’s team takes over the building, Argyle remains unaware of the hostage crisis for much of the film because he is isolated in the garage.
He eventually becomes an unexpected ally. After listening to events over the limousine’s CB radio, Argyle realizes something is wrong and prevents Theo, Gruber’s computer specialist, from escaping in a vehicle. Near the end, he crashes through the parking-garage door and drives McClane and Holly away from the tower.
Argyle is a first name or nickname rather than a conventional full-name clue, so it is sometimes confused with other male characters. Al Powell is the LAPD sergeant who supports McClane by radio, while Richard Thornburg is the television reporter pursuing the story. Argyle is played by De’voreaux White and became one of the film’s memorable supporting characters.
