Cher plays Loretta Castorini in the 1987 romantic comedy Moonstruck. Loretta is a widowed Italian-American bookkeeper in Brooklyn who agrees to marry Johnny Cammareri before falling in love with his passionate younger brother, Ronny.
Cher won the Academy Award for Best Actress for the role. The film also won Oscars for Olympia Dukakis as Best Supporting Actress and John Patrick Shanley for Best Original Screenplay.
