In the 1986 film "Aliens", what is the model number of the power loader used by Ripley?
Answer
P-5000 Power Loader
Answer
P-5000 Power Loader
In 1986’s Aliens, Ripley uses a Caterpillar P-5000 Power Loader. The mechanized exoskeleton is introduced as industrial equipment for moving heavy cargo aboard the Sulaco, not as a purpose-built combat suit.
Its memorable role comes during the climax, when Ripley climbs into the loader to confront the Alien Queen after the creature enters the landing-shuttle area. The loader’s hydraulic arms, lifting claws, protective cage, and powered legs give Ripley enough strength and reach to fight back.
The design was created for the film by production designer Michael Seymour and mechanical designer Ron Cobb, with the practical effects team building a full-scale version. Because the machine was cumbersome, stunt performer John Lees operated it from behind Sigourney Weaver in some shots. Miniatures and carefully choreographed effects were also used for parts of the Queen battle.
A common mix-up is confusing the P-5000 with the film’s M41A Pulse Rifle or the armored personnel carrier, known as the APC. The P-5000 is cargo-handling machinery that Ripley turns into an improvised weapon.
