In the 1929 Wall Street Crash, which October trading day is most famously called Black Tuesday?

The story behind the answer

In the 1929 Wall Street Crash, the trading day most famously called Black Tuesday was October 29, 1929.

On Black Tuesday, roughly 16 million shares changed hands on the New York Stock Exchange, setting a record at the time. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell heavily, following steep losses on Black Thursday, October 24, and Black Monday, October 28.

The crash followed years of rising share prices, widespread speculation, purchases made with borrowed money, and growing economic weaknesses. The market decline did not by itself cause every feature of the Great Depression, but it damaged confidence and intensified financial stress.

Black Tuesday is not the same as the entire 1929 crash. The market continued falling after October, and the Dow eventually reached its bear-market low in July 1932. That distinction helps separate the famous day from the longer collapse.
