Which date marked the Wall Street Crash's most famous 1929 selling session, known as Black Tuesday?

The story behind the answer

October 29, 1929, marked the Wall Street Crash's most famous selling session, known as Black Tuesday.

On that day, investors sold millions of shares on the New York Stock Exchange, and prices dropped across a broad range of companies. The session followed Black Monday, when the Dow Jones Industrial Average had already fallen substantially. Together, the two days destroyed much of the confidence that had supported the late-1920s boom.

The crash did not instantly create every condition of the Great Depression. Banks failed, credit contracted, industrial output declined, and unemployment rose over the following years. The market collapse was nevertheless a highly visible turning point and remains one of the most studied financial events in modern history.

Black Tuesday is often treated as the single date of the crash, but the collapse unfolded across several sessions. Black Thursday on October 24 was the first major panic day, while later losses continued into November.
