In "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" what was Leatherface's masks made from?

Leatherface's masks in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre are made from human skin. The character wears several different masks, each suggesting a different role within his bizarre family life, including the frightening “Killing Mask” used during the murders.

Leatherface was played by Gunnar Hansen in Tobe Hooper's original 1974 film. The mask hides his identity and makes him appear less like an individual person and more like a constructed monster. Its design also helped make the film's central threat instantly recognizable, even though the movie shows comparatively little explicit gore.

The character was partly influenced by the crimes of Ed Gein, whose Wisconsin farmhouse contained objects made from human body parts. Leatherface is not a direct portrait of Gein, however, and the film's cannibal family, murders, and Texas setting are fictional. Later sequels and remakes redesigned the mask, but the human-skin premise remained central to the character.
