In Terminator 2: Judgment Day, young John Connor hacks an ATM to steal cash.
Early in the film, John uses a portable computer and a stolen card to manipulate an automated teller machine. The sequence establishes him as a resourceful juvenile hacker before he learns the full extent of the Terminator threat and reunites with his mother, Sarah Connor.
The scene is a small but memorable piece of character setup: John is not introduced as a conventional hero, but as a teenager surviving independently and using technical skills for petty crimes. The movie later expands those skills into a much larger struggle involving artificial intelligence and the future of humanity.
James Cameron directed and co-wrote the film, which was released in 1991. Arnold Schwarzenegger plays the reprogrammed T-800, while Edward Furlong plays John Connor. The cash comes from an ATM, not from hacking a bank’s central computer.
