In Taxi Driver, what question does Travis Bickle ask while staring into a mirror?

The story behind the answer

In Taxi Driver, Travis Bickle asks, “You talkin’ to me?” while practicing an imagined confrontation in a mirror.

The scene shows Travis rehearsing toughness and violence alone in his apartment. Robert De Niro improvised much of the famous mirror monologue, building on the character’s isolation and unstable mental state.

The line is often remembered as “Are you talking to me?”, but the film’s commonly quoted wording is “You talkin’ to me?” The moment became one of the most recognizable scenes in American cinema and has been widely parodied.

Taxi Driver was directed by Martin Scorsese and released in 1976. Paul Schrader wrote the screenplay, while De Niro played Travis, a disturbed New York City taxi driver and Vietnam veteran.
