In Sumerian mythology, which god is the patron of crafts, fresh water, and wisdom?

The story behind the answer

In Sumerian mythology, Enki is the god associated with crafts, fresh water, and wisdom.

Enki, later known by the Akkadian name Ea, is linked with the subterranean freshwater realm called the Abzu. He is a creator, counselor, and master of technical knowledge, making him especially important to artisans, ritual specialists, and rulers.

Many myths portray Enki as a clever problem-solver. He helps humanity in several crisis narratives and is central to stories involving the me, the divine powers of civilization. His major cult center was Eridu, one of the oldest important cities in southern Mesopotamia.

Enki is often confused with Enlil because both are major male gods in the Sumerian pantheon. Enlil is strongly associated with wind, authority, and Nippur, while Enki is associated with fresh water, intelligence, and Eridu.
