In Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away, the spirit who works in the boiler room is Kamaji.
Kamaji operates the bathhouse’s enormous boiler room, where he manages the magical herbs and coal sprites that help prepare the baths. He has six arms that allow him to work across the room, making him one of the film’s most visually distinctive supporting characters.
Although Kamaji initially appears gruff and too busy to help Chihiro, he eventually protects her by giving her a place to sleep and speaking to Lin on her behalf. His kindness shows that the bathhouse contains sympathetic spirits as well as threatening figures.
Kamaji is often confused with Haku, the river spirit who guides Chihiro, or Lin, the bathhouse worker who becomes her ally. Boh is Yubaba’s giant baby, while Kamaji is the many-armed boiler-room worker who tends the bathhouse equipment.
