In Studio Ghibli’s Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Nausicaä’s small fox-squirrel is called Teto.
Teto is a tiny animal companion who initially reacts defensively when Nausicaä meets him. She calms him by showing patience, and he soon becomes devoted to her. Teto accompanies Nausicaä during her travels through the dangerous toxic jungle and war-torn lands.
Teto is not a conventional pet such as a cat or dog. The fox-squirrel is a fictional species from the world of Nausicaä, and the name is written as テト in Japanese. Fans sometimes confuse Teto with Jiji from Kiki’s Delivery Service or Heen from Howl’s Moving Castle, both of whom are animal companions in different films.
